Happy New Year everyone ! I hope 2015 brings lots of good Old Time Music and maybe this year you learn to play an instrument , if ya don't already !
I have tried my hand at guitar, banjo and fiddle, but think the guitar is where my heart is . I love to sing and the guitar seems best suited for that.
This month , and last, I actually got to attend 2 wonderful jams and this time , instead of just snapping pix, I got to play guitar with my friends ! Even though I have a long way to go, it still felt like a milestone for me and a proud moment !
One of the jams was Jim Lloyds Black Friday Jam , which takes place every year at his barber shop and is usually packed wall to wall with seasoned musicians and students . Just a great jam to attend and Jim lloyd is always a hilarious host and makes the jam a hoot and a half. Its in Rural Retreat, Va. so y'all be sure and come next year !
Then, New Years Eve , Steve Kilby invited me to his yearly jam art his home in Mouth of Wilson. I rode out there, over the river and through the woods with some good friends Debbie Larson and Quinten Boyles (All the folks Im mentioning are in the book project !)
Steve and Penny's place is a beautiful 200 year old farm house way out n the country and so warm and inviting inside and out ! When we arrived there was a line to the kitchen and the food was worth the wait ! so yummy and good for the tummy !
There were so many amazing musicians there and so honored that this book project has connected me with such great folks that are now my friends and 'family'. Its a good feeing !
Every room of Steve's house was brimming with circle jams! I ended up in a room with my wytheville friends and we had a blast playing some great old time songs ! I wondered around and got some pix and video of the other jams and I will post them soon !
My New Years resolution ? To blog more and to get a fund raiser launched for this here book so I can have the time and finances to make this all come true !
BTW, my dear friend Sam Gleaves is trying to raise funds for his new CD. You can find his campaign on InideGoGo, so please Go and help support his project if ya can ! He writes some truly beautiful music !
Talk to ya again soon! HAPPY 2015!! Make it ROCK!!
